01Training in Cupertino

Dogs in Cupertino, and the lives they actually live.

Cupertino households are often busy family households — kids, school pick-ups, visitors and a dog in the middle of it all. Puppy biting that’s manageable for adults can be a real problem around young children, and a dog who rushes the door can knock someone over.

We focus on the routines that make family life with a dog calmer: clear house rules everyone can follow, polite greetings, and walks that don’t require an adult with a strong grip.

Local rule of thumb: In Cupertino, dogs may be off-leash only inside the Mary Avenue Dog Park and must be on a six-foot leash at all other city parks. Source: City of Cupertino — Dog Parks .

Local questions

Dog training in Cupertino: FAQ

We have young kids. Where do we start?

With safety and structure: supervised interactions, a place for the dog to settle away from the action, and clear rules every family member can follow. If there has been any growling or snapping around children, tell us in the intake so we can plan accordingly.

Our puppy bites the kids during play. Is that normal?

Mouthing is normal puppy behavior, but it needs direction — especially with children. We teach the puppy what to bite instead and teach the family how to play in ways that don’t wind the puppy up.

Can my dog be off-leash in Cupertino parks?

Only inside the Mary Avenue Dog Park. Everywhere else in city parks, dogs need to be on a six-foot leash — which is why we build recall with long lines and fenced areas first.
