01Training in Los Gatos

Dogs in Los Gatos, and the lives they actually live.

Los Gatos dogs get some of the best walks in the South Bay — creek trails, lakeside paths and foothill neighborhoods — along with the distractions that come with them: wildlife scents, runners, cyclists and busy weekend sidewalks downtown.

We help Los Gatos owners turn those walks into the relaxed outings they should be, with leash manners that hold up on the trail and a recall built for the moment something bolts out of the brush.

Where Los Gatos skills get tested.

A skill isn’t finished until it holds in the places you actually go. These are the kinds of local settings a plan works toward — step by step, at your dog’s pace.
  • 01

    Los Gatos Creek Trail

Leashed dogs only, with runners and cyclists in both directions — loose-leash and passing practice.

  • 02

    Vasona Lake County Park

Lakeside paths, picnics and wildlife on a 6-foot leash — a big distraction step-up.

  • 03

    Downtown Los Gatos

Boutiques and café patios along North Santa Cruz Avenue — settle and neutrality practice.

  • 04

    Foothill neighborhoods

Wildlife scents and quiet streets that suddenly aren’t — prime recall and impulse-control territory.

Local rule of thumb: County park and trail guides list a 6-foot maximum leash on the Los Gatos Creek Trail and at Vasona Lake County Park. Verify posted signage before you go. Source: Santa Clara County Parks trail and park maps.

Local questions

Dog training in Los Gatos: FAQ

Can my dog be off-leash on the Los Gatos Creek Trail?

No — posted rules require a leash (6-foot maximum) on the trail and in the county parks along it. We build recall with long lines and fenced areas so it’s ready for the places where off-leash is allowed.

My dog chases wildlife. Can that be trained?

Chasing is deeply rewarding for many dogs, so it takes structured work: impulse control, a strong recall built through layers of distraction, and management while reliability grows. We’ll be honest about what’s realistic for your dog.

Is Los Gatos too far for regular sessions?

Many owners find a 20–30 minute drive manageable for scheduled sessions, especially since most progress comes from short daily practice at home. Ask us about scheduling options.
