01Training in Mountain View

Dogs in Mountain View, and the lives they actually live.

Mountain View dogs share space with a lot of fast-moving people: bike commuters on the Stevens Creek Trail, crowds along Castro Street, and neighborhoods full of runners and strollers. For a dog who chases, lunges or simply can’t walk politely, that’s a lot of pressure.

We build the skills that make shared spaces easier — loose-leash walking, calm passing and a reliable check-in — and then practice them in the situations that matter to you.

02Local proofing environments

Where Mountain View skills get tested.

A skill isn’t finished until it holds in the places you actually go. These are the kinds of local settings a plan works toward — step by step, at your dog’s pace.
  • 01

    Castro Street

Dense sidewalks, outdoor dining and transit nearby — a demanding urban proofing setting.

  • 02

    Stevens Creek Trail

Bike commuters at speed; teach calm passing and staying on your side of the path.

  • 03

    Neighborhood parks

Lawns, playgrounds and other dogs — an intermediate step between home and downtown.

Local rule of thumb: Keep dogs leashed on trails and in parks outside designated off-leash areas; posted rules vary by park. Source: City of Mountain View parks (posted rules).

Local questions

Dog training in Mountain View: FAQ

My dog lunges at cyclists on the trail. Can you help?

Yes. Chasing or lunging at bikes is often a mix of excitement, predatory interest and frustration on leash. We work on distance, a reliable check-in and a clear alternative behavior, then close the gap gradually.

How do I get my dog to settle at an outdoor restaurant?

Place and settle work at home comes first, then short practice sessions at quieter times. A dog who can relax under a table on Castro Street learned it in many easier places before that.
